A 31-year-old pervert has been arrested after it was discovered he’d been messaging young girls via Instagram in an attempt to use them for sex. The man, who went by the Instagram handle “Mixed Race Dan,” was caught after the 14-year-old girl he’d been messaging told her mother what was going on. Shockingly, police weren’t the first to help; rather it was a group of vigilantes who responded first and put a stop to the pedophile.
Arrest. A 31-year-old man named Danny Patrick was arrested this past week after he was caught sending disturbing messages to a 14-year-old girl. “I want to give you a kiss and something else,” and “Would you want to lose your virginity to me,” were among some of the disgusting messages Patrick was sending.
Help. But unfortunately, police officers told the concerned mother that they would not be able to help until the next day. Unwilling to wait as her daughter’s safety was being threatened, the mother decided to turn matters into her own hands and contacted a group of vigilantes for help.
Vigilantes. The vigilantes took control of the teen’s Instagram account and pretended to be her while they spoke to Patrick. At one point, while still pretending to be the young girl, the vigilantes asked Patrick to meet in a more public area.
No show. Perhaps sensing that something was up, Patrick failed to turn up to the spot they had planned to meet him. However by this point there was enough evidence that Patrick could be turned in to police.
History. According to the Mirror UK, police arrested Patrick at his home. It seems he has quite a criminal history, as he was arrested in 2012 for having inappropriate photos of children.
Actions. "In 2012, a court gave you the chance to address any predilection you had for looking at young children. But actions speak louder than words and now your desire to have sexual relations with a child under 16 has caused significant upset and psychological harm,” said Judge James Burbidge, as reported by the Mirror UK.
Moving on. Despite his criminal history, Patrick also has five children of his own, although it’s unclear whether or not he has custody of them. Since his arrest, the victim’s mother says her daughter has been suffering from significant trauma as she tried to move on from the incident.
Fear. "She is confused as to why this man wanted to meet her and is now frightened to leave the house. She spends more time alone in her room with the curtains closed for fear of being watched,” said the girl’s mother, as reported by the Mirror UK.
Others. Last year, a 40-year-old man named Richard Hewitt was arrested after he was set up but a vigilante group called “Dark Justice” who tricked him into believing he was going to meet a 13-year-old girl.
Set up. According to the Daily Mail UK, the pervert thought he was going to meet a young girl named Jessie, who he’d been “talking to” via a teen chat room. Little did he know he was on his way to be put in handcuffs.
Caught. Hewitt drove to a spot where he thought he was meeting the girl, only to be met by a group of people who informed him he was being set up. Hewitt tried to run away and destroy his phone, which contained evidence, but was stopped.
Arrested. “You became agitated and tried to damage your own phone, knowing what might be on it.There is an obvious risk of you committing further offences, as demonstrated by your repeated offending,” Judge Robert Adams told the man.
Help. Hewitt admitted that he needed help and that he tried to run away. It is unclear what his sentencing will be, but we can only hope he will be put away so as to never cause harm to a young girl ever again.
