Timeless. There’s something absolutely timeless about a latex dress. They can look vintage, modern, and futuristic all at once. They have an incredibly sexy look that borders on risque, but in the best way. They’re an incredible look but they’re also kind of tricky to pull off--oh, and put on.

Impressive. All kinds of celebrities have pulled off latex in their own way. Queen Bey has rocked a latex one piece for a performance and a gown at the Met Ball. The queens of RuPaul’s drag race showed off some impressive takes on the fabric for a runway challenge.

Mastered the Art. The Kardashian-Jenners seem to have mastered the art of the latex dress though. Khloe, Kim, and Kylie have all pulled off various latex styles and it’s really inspiring to the fashionably daring side in all of us.

Specializes. Atsuko Kudo is a London-based designer that specializes in latex clothing. Her designs have earned her praise from the Kardashians and top model Bella Hadid as well.

Empowering. She told Page Six that she makes clothing “for everyone who wants to feel beautiful, feminine and strong.” She also stated that “Latex empowers women.”

Tricky. If reading that got you pumped up to hunt down your own latex outfit and rock it at your next girls night out, there’s a few things you need to know. First and foremost, it’s tricky to put on.

Easier. Laura Petrielli-Pulice, the founder of Vex, is a big name in the latex fashion community and has even dressed Nicki Minaj, and Kylie. She told Page Six that the snap and zippers “make it a hell of a lot easier to change in and out of these pieces quickly without ruining them.” But there’s another option too.

Not Pretty. Petrielli-Pulice and Kudo both recommend snagging a silicone-based lubricant to help get your latex garment to slide on. Petrielli-Pulice warned against using baby powder to help though, telling Page Six, “Personally, I don’t like baby powder because if you do sweat in the piece, you start to drip this white milky residue. It’s not pretty.”

Accident. At the 2017 MTV Movie Awards actress Chrissy Metz rocked a gorgeous red latex dress. She was presenting an award for Best On-Screen Duo to Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen, when she accidentally got some lube on his tux.

Funny. Chrissy told Megyn Kelly on the Today Show about having to let him know what happened. She recalled, "And I was like, 'It's latex, and it's lubed up, and I don't want to get it on your suit.' He's like, 'Right, right.' I loved it and I loved that moment, but it was pretty funny." So remember to be careful with the lube!

Explode. Once you’re all lubed up and ready to slide on your latex outfit, you should be weary of how you put it on. Petrielli-Pulice explained to Page Six, “Latex is like a balloon: If you have sharp nails or a sharp ring or necklace and you puncture it in any way, it’ll just explode. It’s my worst fear.”

Care. So that means you shouldn’t be forceful with the latex. You have to be weary of your nails as well so you don’t damage the delicate fabric. For something so tricky to put on, it’s surprisingly easy to clean and take care of.

Cleaning. “You can just put it in your sink and bathtub and wash it with dye-free detergent or a mild soap, and then hang it dry,” Petrielli-Pulice told Page Six. It’s also best to keep it out of direct sunlight as well. “I’ve seen stuff in store window displays literally melt from the heat,” she added.

Brand New. There are also some protective sprays you should look into to keep your latex looking brand new. “Obviously when the Kardashians are wearing a piece, they’re wearing it once and never again. But for the normal person buying it, they definitely want to get some care products to go along with it. Because if they’re going to be spending the money on it, they probably want to wear it at least a couple of times!” the designer said.
