Motorcycle Batteries - Motorcycle Battery Chargers

Motorcycle Batteries - Motorcycle Battery Chargers: Information on where to purchase your motorcycle battery or motorcycle battery charger;Sony laptop battery how to maintain a motorcycle battery and more!

Gel & AGM Batteries: What are gel batteries (also known as "gell" or "gell cell") batteries? Gel batteries use a thickener in the liquid electrolyte rather than water in the cells. They're similar to AGM, or absorbed glass mat batteries. Gel batteries must be charged on a trickle charger rather than a fast automotive charger.VGP-BPS10 Battery, PCG-R505 Battery, PCG-V505 Battery, PCG-Z505 Battery
In my experience, the trickle chargers like the Battery Tender work fine for gel or AGM batteries.

Both gel and AGM batteries work much better in a motorcycle application because they can withstand vibration better than water filled batteries. It's my understanding that they also hold up better under a deep discharge.

Make sure you check with your battery manufacturer before you use a Battery Tender or other charger; certain types of trickle chargers are not recommended for use in some gel batteries,VGP-BPS10 Battery, although we've been using three separate Battery Tender Plus units continuously for over 7 years and have never experienced a problem, either with the battery or the Battery Tender.

Buying Motorcycle Batteries on the Web?

Tip From "D.M.": "Something for consumers to consider when mail ordering a battery. I ordered a Yuasa because the local dealers did not carry what I needed. It was promptly shipped with a container of electrolyte. Added electrolyte, sealed caps, and charged using approved charger.

Battery lasted 1 month, then wouldn't hold a charge.

Yuasa was contacted and my options were: return it to where you purchased it. VGP-BPS10 Battery, PCG-R505 Battery, PCG-V505 Battery, PCG-Z505 Battery
The company I ordered it from would not accept batteries that had electrolyte installed. No local dealer, rightfully so, would take it back on Yuasa's behalf.PCG-V505 Battery, So I was left with a bad battery with no warranty options.

Something for others to consider when mail ordering a battery."
