Amazing History Of Laptop Batteries

Whenever you power up your laptop you may not think about IBM 08K8193 Battery the history that has gone on to help us get to where we are today. Our laptops have come a long way to become as powerful as they are, but what we do not think about is how far the laptop batteries have come. The history of laptop batteries is an amazing one. They have come along way, and in the end they still have a long way to go before they are perfect. However, we can be happy that we have learned from our mistakes and come up with a battery that is lighter and longer lasting than older ones.

The laptop is a great thing. It allows you to use your computer without having to be plugged up to a wall. However, back in the day you could not run your laptop off the batteries alone for too long. Thanks to people always looking to improve what we already have, we have made great jumps in the history of the batteries. When we think of laptop batteries many of us think about the rechargeable ones that we use today. However, did you know that they used to make laptops that ran off AA batteries? Not only did it take a lot of AA IBM 08K8192 Battery batteries to run a laptop, but they could not run it for long. Many people today remember the laptops running off the very heavy lead acid based batteries. Not only did these batteries not last long, but it made your laptop very heavy. You might as well been carrying around a desktop. Since then the history of laptop batteries have kept improving. In fact, after we turned in the old lead acid batteries we moved on to the nickel cadmium batteries.

If you do not remember ever hearing of nickel cadmium batteries, that is because some people called them NiCD. However, these batteries were not around too long because we soon left those for nickel metal hydribe batteries (also called NiMH). As you can guess both of these batteries lasted a lot longer than the old acid ones, however, we were not done making great batteries just yet. After that we moved on to the lithium ion batteries as well as the lithium polymer. These are the IBM 92P1101 Battery batteries that most laptops use today. However, we are not done making great batteries, and you can bet that the history of laptop batteries is going to move on from here. As more and more people get laptops every year the demand for a longer lasting batter is ever growing. Until we can make a battery that never dies, we are always going to see more improvements in the life of batteries.

People use there laptops for many different things. Some use it for school, and others use it for work. However, no matter what you use your laptop for, you know that you need a long last battery. You have to know that you are going to be able to count on the battery when you need your laptop the most. Because of that, we should be happy that batteries keep improving. The history of laptop batteries is a long one, and it’s going to just keep getting longer. All that means is that we are going to end up with some great batteries over the course of a few years. As companies jump at the chance to improve their laptops you are going to see some of the worlds best batteries come to be. What that means for us is the fact that we can have great running computers that do not die after a few hours.

laptop battery life

There are many factors that effect the dell laptop battery life of a laptop's battery.

Improper power settings:

Be sure that you check your computers power settings to make sure that you are taking advantage of your laptop's energy saving mode.

Windows includes two power schemes that were created specifically for mobile PCs.

The Portable/Laptop power scheme minimizes the use of power to conserve your battery, but adjusts to your processing needs so that the system speed is dell Inspiron 8100 battery not sacrificed.

The Max Battery power scheme minimizes power use but does not adjust as your processing demands change. You should use Max Battery only in situations that require minimal processing, such as reading documents and taking notes in a meeting.

To use a power scheme designed to maximize battery life:

1. Go to Start>> Control Panel

2. In Control Panel, verify that you're in Category view, and then select Performance and Maintenance

3. Click Power Options.

4. Select the Power Schemes tab

5. Click the arrow under Power schemes, and then click Max Battery

6. Click OK

You can also create dell Inspiron 4000 battery a custom power scheme to suit your specific needs. You can create as many custom power schemes as you want.

Running heavy resource eating programs:

Don't expect your battery to get you through a 2 hour movie. Watching movies on your laptop is a huge drain on the battery life. If you had a second battery on hand, this would probably be OK.

Monitor brightness setting:

The largest resource dell Inspiron 4100 battery hog for a laptop battery is the systems monitor. You can add some life by finding the brightness control and turning it down as far as you can stand.

Age of the battery:

Many people believe that a laptops battery is only good for about a year. This sure hasn't been the case for me. I have been a power user on many laptops for many years and I can tell you that a laptop battery seems to do very well way past the first year on into the second. But, after the second year, you dell Inspiron 2500 battery will probably notice a performance fade.

Type of battery:

Lithium-ion Battery:

If you are using a laptop with a Lithium-ion battery (most newer laptops), it should give you between 300-500 charge/discharge cycles. This type of battery doesn't like full discharges and should be avoided when-ever possible. The technology is still being enhanced and dell Latitude CPX battery should continue to be the battery of choice for laptop manufactures in the future. Elevated temperatures seem to have an adverse effect on this batteries life. Lithium-ion battery manufactures believe that a typical life span should be somewhere between 2 to 3 years. Most lithium-ion batteries fail because of exposure to excessive heat rather than the charge/discharge habits of the user.

Nickel-based Battery:

(nickel dell Latitude C600 battery cadmium and nickel metal hydride) Unlike the lithium based battery, this battery likes being discharged and then fully charged. If a Nickel-based battery is always partially discharged before recharging, the usable capacity of the battery will be reduced. This battery has a voltage capacity 3 times less than the Lithium battery (1.2 V -vs- 3.6 V) making it less commonly used in the portable industry. If your laptop is 3 or more years old, then most likely you have this type of battery.

Battery Disposal:dell Latitude C610 battery

As with any battery, your laptop battery will not last forever. When you are ready to get rid of your old laptop and bring in a new model, please discard your battery in a responsible manor. Batteries contain hazardous material and are harmful to our environment. Many large retailers have made it easy for us to dispose of these, here are a few that participate:

Laptop Buyer’s Guide - Battery

An important factor to consider is IBM Laptop Battery how much battery life you’ll need on your laptop. No matter how much battery you have, using your built-in DVD drive a lot and having a 17″ screen will drain it faster. Battery technology–just like any technology–is improving all the time.

Yesterday’s laptops featured Ni-Cad (Nickel-Cadmium) batteries, which poisoned the environment when disposed of improperly, didn’t offer much up-time (comparatively), and had the annoying habit of remembering how long you had used them and refusing to work any longer the next time. Then there were NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride) batteries; they offered longer life, better IBM ThinkPad A20 Battery efficiency, and no memory problems.

The current generation of laptops still uses Lithium Ion batteries. These batteries offer a gain in efficiency over NiMH batteries, with an extremely low discharge rate (long shelf life when charged) and efficiency improvements over Lithium Ion batteries; movement towards new battery technology has slowed, however. Even though improvements are made, we are getting to the point where packing so much energy into a tiny space is getting a bit dangerous. If you’ve ever seen news footage of a laptop computer igniting, that’s what could happen if the battery goes haywire. Don’t be too worried about it, though, as that is an extremely rare event. A single fire typically causes thousands of batteries to get recalled,IBM ThinkPad A20M Battery though, since there is little room for error where a burning laptop is concerned.

Some laptops claim up to 5 hours worth of up-time on one battery–take this figure with a grain of salt. That’s probably how long the battery would last if you put on the blank-screen screen saver and didn’t touch it for 5 hours. Expect more in the range of two or three hours per stock battery under continual use. If you plan to be on flights, trains, or buses for 10 hours at a time, buy some extra batteries, make sure you have a power plug handy, or make IBM ThinkPad A21M Battery, sure you get a model that has a nice add-on battery feature that can hold a lot of juice.

Some designs offer a battery plate that fits on the bottom of the laptop, adding size and a few pounds but offering many more hours of battery life. If that’s what you need, check around for interesting battery setups. Several manufacturers also offer laptops with expansion slots that will accept a variety of peripherals, including a second battery–that second battery can double your battery life. If your laptop doesn’t offer that, you have to buy another IBM ThinkPad R60 Batteryof the same battery and may want to make sure you get a battery charger to go with it so that you can charge both batteries at the same time (one in the laptop, one in the charger). Obviously, that is not ideal. If you need it, just go for a model that offers the battery capacity you want. Also, keep in mind that extra batteries can cost up to and over US$200 apiece.

When selecting a battery, manufacturers will often list an amount of “cells,” where each IBM ThinkPad T60 Batterycell has a certain capacity; thus a 9 cell has 50% more capacity than an equal model 6-cell battery. That is useful for comparing directly, but the story is more complex if you wanted to compare different batteries on different laptops. Batteries have a voltage rating (V) and milli-Amp hours (mAH), which, if multiplied together, give you milliwatt hours. For example, a 14.8 V battery with 4460 mAH gives you 66,000 milliwatt hours (66 watt-hours). You can compare batteries this way, but also keep in mind that different laptops have very different power requirements that vary based on the components and how well the operating system manages power consumption. Typically, bigger, heavier batteries will give you a higher watt-hour rating. A 6-cell battery may be the same form factor as a 9-cell, but the 6-cell will weigh less since there’s less chemical in it to hold onto that charge.

If you are a mobile warrior, you will want the most cells and/or most watt-hours you can get into your model so IBM 40Y6797 Batteryyou can go 5 or 6 hours without a recharge. It is so painful to run our of power before you are ready.

Recommendations

Make sure you get a Lithium Ion battery with maximum cells in the model you are looking for, including a spare add-on battery that replaces a DVD-drive or otherwise adds onto the battery that comes standard. NiMH or, even worse, Ni-Cad are old technologies that are best forgotten when it comes to powering laptops, although they are still used to power your electric tools.
